github artcraft: the repositories behind the 7 Crafting Apps

Every ArtCraft Crafting App is developed in the open under the storytold GitHub organization. This page puts all 7 repositories side by side — stars, last commit, latest release — so you can judge activity before you install.

Code first, marketing never.

A search for github artcraft usually means one thing: you want the actual code and a sign of life, not another landing page. Each row below links to the official repository, and each number comes from the public GitHub API, fetched on October 10, 2026 and baked into this page at build time.

Two honest limits: stars measure attention, not quality, and these numbers are a snapshot that will age. The official status labels come from the official Crafting Apps directory, not from our own testing — we have not installed or benchmarked these apps.

Seven repos, one glance.

Snapshot from the GitHub API on October 10, 2026. A missing value means the API did not return it — we hide the field rather than guess.

What each repository is for.

01

PhotoCraft ↗

Image editing · Early alpha

The layered image editor of the family, and the repository most people land on first. Officially early alpha with a Web version, so you can explore it in a browser tab before installing anything.

As of October 10, 2026: 40,584 stars, latest release v0.6.0, last commit Oct 10, 2026 (GitHub API).

02

VectorCraft ↗

Vector illustration · In development

Vector illustration for logos and artwork. The official listing still says in development even though installers exist — read recent commits and issues to judge the pace yourself.

As of October 10, 2026: 5,915 stars, latest release v0.8.0, last commit Oct 10, 2026 (GitHub API).

03

FilmCraft ↗

Video editing · In development

Timeline video editing, and the only Crafting App without a Web version in the official directory. Officially in development; check the release notes before touching client work.

As of October 10, 2026: 8,272 stars, latest release v0.5.0, last commit Oct 10, 2026 (GitHub API).

04

LightCraft ↗

Photo library & RAW · In development

Photo library and RAW development — a different job from PhotoCraft’s layered editing. Officially in development; back up your library before pointing any build at real photos.

As of October 10, 2026: 8,723 stars, latest release v0.5.0, last commit Oct 10, 2026 (GitHub API).

05

PdfCraft ↗

PDF workbench · Early alpha

Reading, arranging and combining PDFs, labelled early alpha. A small, well-defined scope makes this one of the easier repositories to evaluate quickly.

As of October 10, 2026: 7,607 stars, latest release v0.5.0, last commit Oct 10, 2026 (GitHub API).

06

EffectCraft ↗

Motion graphics & VFX · In development

Motion graphics and VFX, officially in development. The product page describes usable builds; the commit history and issue tracker tell you how settled the export pipeline is.

As of October 10, 2026: 4,389 stars, latest release v0.7.0, last commit Oct 10, 2026 (GitHub API).

07

DesignCraft ↗

Page layout · In development

Page layout for print and digital publishing, officially in development. Review exported PDFs carefully — typography bugs hide well in screenshots.

As of October 10, 2026: 2,464 stars, latest release v0.5.0, last commit Oct 10, 2026 (GitHub API).

How to read a repository in five minutes.

Here is the checklist we apply to every craft github repository on this page before taking its installer seriously:

  1. Commits, not stars. Open the commit graph. Steady commits in the last month matter more than a big star count.
  2. Read the latest release notes. Look for a version tag, a date and honest known-issues notes. No release at all is itself an answer.
  3. Scan open issues for your platform. Search issues for macOS, Windows, Linux or Web — whichever you need — and see whether maintainers respond.
  4. Check the license. The official directory describes the apps as open source; confirm the LICENSE file in the repo before building on the code.
  5. Compare with the official status. If the repository looks quiet but the official page says “early alpha”, trust the label and test with a copy of your files.

Back to the decision.

The repositories tell you how alive a project is; the homepage tells you which one fits your task.
